Behind the Music: ‘Better Than This’ from Pinkque & Roxanne Emery

At Reason II Rise Music, mental health isn't just a topic; it's a core value we hold dear. We believe in the power of music to heal, uplift, and inspire, which is why we're incredibly honored to share the story behind our latest release with Pinkque & Roxanne Emery, "Better Than This."

Behind the pulsating beats and soaring melodies lies a deeply personal journey—one bravely shared by Pinkque. Through her music, Pinkque courageously opens up about her own experiences with mental health, shining a light on the highs, the lows, and the journey towards healing. "Better Than This" is just a glimpse into Pinkque's upcoming album, set for release on March 22, 2024. Each track on her album ‘Beautiful Struggle’ is a testament to her resilience, vulnerability, and unwavering determination to overcome obstacles. As a label, we feel privileged to be a part of Pinkque's journey—to stand by her side as she shares her creations with the world.

In a world where vulnerability is often seen as weakness, Pinkque breaks the mold with her raw honesty and courage. In a recent video shared on social media, she peeled back the layers of her soul to reveal the deeply personal story behind her latest track, "Better Than This."

As she sat before the camera, her eyes filled with emotion, Pinkque recounted a pivotal moment in her life — a moment that saved her from doing the unthinkable. During a tour in Argentina in 2017, she found herself grappling with the darkest depths of her own mind. Struggling with mental health since the tender age of 13, Pinkque had faced countless battles, but nothing could have prepared her for the darkness that consumed her during that time of her life.

In her own words, she felt trapped, drowning in a ocean of darkness. But amidst the chaos of her mind, something miraculous happened. In the midst of a performance in Argentina, Pinkque felt a glimmer of something she hadn't felt in years: hope. It was a moment that was enough to ignite a flame within her soul.

“This track, this collaboration with Roxanne Emery is more than just music. It’s the embodiment of my journey through the depths of despair and the courage of reaching out for help. I dedicate this song… to you.” - Pinkque

Pinkque made a decision that would change the course of her life forever. She reached out for help and started therapy, this time finding a psychologist that she truely connected with and was able to properly and comfortably open up too bravely confronting the demons that had haunted her for so long. In her video, she spoke candidly about the immense guilt and shame she felt for struggling with her mental health, and the fear of burdening others with her pain. Pinkque has told us on the side the profound relief that came with finally asking for help, and the transformative power of therapy in her healing journey that she continues to work on today.

Pinkque's story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and a reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is hope. Through her music and her courage to share her truth, she invites others to break free from the stigma surrounding mental health, and to find solace in the knowledge that they are not alone.

As "Better Than This" resonates with listeners around the world, with such a profound message of hope and resilience that lies beneath the surface. We stand with Pinkque and all those who bravely navigate the depths of their own minds.

Pinkque’s album ‘Beautiful Struggle’ is due for release on Reason II Rise Music on the 22nd March 2024.
