Carlos Adonis has been making a name for himself in the electronic music scene, known for his boundary-pushing approach to trance. His latest release 'It Begins' on Reason II Rise: Realms, in collaboration with Impulse Wave, is a tech-infused track designed to set dance floors on fire. We caught up with Carlos to discuss his journey, creative process, and what makes his sound truly unique.
From a young age, Carlos was drawn to the stage. "When I was a child, my main motivation was to be a great singer," he reflects. His passion for music led him to study not only singing but also music theory, dance, theater, and composition. As he grew older, he gravitated toward playing instruments like the piano and guitar, eventually finding his way to composing his own music. What started as a dream of independence evolved into something more interconnected. "Later, I discovered that there is no such thing as 'independence' in music, since we are all connected in some way," he explains, crediting these connections for shaping his path as an artist.
Carlos's influences are rooted in the legends of Tech Trance. The first DJ that captured his imagination was Sven Väth, but it was artists like Marco V, Scot Project, Mark Sherry, and Gareth Emery who shaped his musical style. This blend of classic Tech Trance with the melodic elements of Progressive Trance has become a defining feature of his sound. His tracks often evoke the energy and drive of Tech Trance while infusing the emotional depth and melody that he admires in the Progressive Trance scene from the early 2010s.

When asked about his creative process, Carlos emphasizes that storytelling is key. “The only rule is to tell a story,” he says, adding that each track is a continuation of a larger narrative. Unlike many producers who rely on templates or established formulas, Carlos values creative freedom above all. “Creative freedom is so fundamental in every aspect,” he explains, and that flexibility allows him to evolve and differentiate his sound with each new project. “I don’t like to sound the same as yesterday; I always try to differentiate me from myself.”
One of his most cherished productions is Invisible, a collaboration with Ren Faye. What begins as a seemingly straightforward heartbreak song reveals deeper emotional layers upon closer inspection. "It’s actually about emotional codependency with another person, the voids we look for others to come and fill," Carlos explains. The track’s melancholic tone resonated deeply with both him and his listeners, becoming a standout in his discography. "We did a pop version and a Club Mix, but you can be in the mood and say:
- Alexa, Invisible by Carlos Adonis.
- Alexa, turn up the volume.
- Alexa, I need a hug :')"
Music, for Carlos, is more than just an art form; it’s a refuge. "I want to create enough refuges for people," he says, underscoring his desire to offer solace through his music. Whether it’s the melody or the groove, each element of his tracks is crafted with this goal in mind. He isn’t interested in following trends or sticking to genres - his sound is fluid, evolving with his creativity.
This quest for artistic freedom is what drew Carlos to Reason II Rise Music. “I’m always looking for a place where I can be free, and fortunately R2R has offered me that freedom,” he shares. His recent work with the label has allowed him to explore new creative directions, and he credits the team with fostering a dynamic, supportive environment. “Darren has been right in giving more space to other interesting projects, and Natasha has been amazing in terms of communication and support.” When asked about his dream collaborations, Carlos didn’t hesitate to mention his favourite artist: "I’d love to collaborate with Marco V. He’s my favorite artist, and his influence on my music is undeniable." He also expressed a strong desire to work with a standout vocalist in the industry: "That Girl has such a unique voice. You just see her everywhere, and she has this incredible tone that I’d love to incorporate into a track."
As for what’s next, Carlos has three releases lined up for this year, including one on a sublabel of Black Hole Recordings, and several live performances planned in Mexico. His passion for music keeps him grounded and focused on what matters most: delivering powerful, innovative tracks that resonate with his audience.
To aspiring musicians, Carlos offers a simple but profound piece of advice: “You are not the only one, but you can be the best. Many doors may be closed to you, but that should motivate you more to achieve your goals.” For him, the journey is about persistence, passion, and never settling for less than what you’re capable of. With his fearless approach to creativity and a growing fanbase, Carlos Adonis is on a path that promises to leave a lasting impact on the world of trance music.
